TRACKMANIA TURBO (UbiSoft)Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PCThose gamers out there of a certain vintage will remember fondly the Mattel Hot Wheels games.
No, they weren’t video games (although they did release a video game of the same name much later on) –instead, a series of racing games where you had to build actual tracks and could race all styles of non-powered toy cars. The tracks could include jumps, high-speed corners, even gravity-defying loops and, at that time, were a hell of a lot of fun to play with.
Likewise, UbiSoft’s magnificent arcade racer TRACKMANIA TURBO has many links back to those Hot Wheel games. Think Ridge Racer meets MotorStorm.
TrackMania Turbo – or TMT for short – features a staggering 200 tracks across four different locations (Valley Down & Dirty, Rollercoaster Lagoon, Canyon Grand Driftand International Stadium), where brute speed and the ability to defy the laws of gravity will bring you success.
The best part of TMT is that no matter your level of proficiency, you can pretty much pick it up and enjoy it right from the word go. And even if you are an experienced gamer, then there’s still plenty here for you to enjoy.
Knowing how far to push one of your four different style vehicles is paramount to success. Can you drift around every corner on this track? And if so, how far are you willing to push it?
The tracks aren’t long – the best part of a minute will see you complete most single laps – but there are plenty of ways to test your mettle here – from huge jumps across canyons through to head-spinning half-pipes that you will either land successfully or see you crash out in a burning mess.
And if you’re up for an online race, TMT has you covered with some fantastic multiplayer options, including a staggering 100-player online multiplayer mode.
There’s a lot to like about TMT without too many grumbles. The physics (despite being a little far-fetched) are excellent, while the sheer volume of tracks available will see you coming back for more.
