THE Manning Regional Art Gallery has three upcoming arts initiatives designed to include and showcase the talents of local and regional artists from Gloucester, Great Lakes and the Manning.
The 24/7 Street View Project Space is a public project allowing local and NSW regional artists to explore, collaborate and showcase their artistic skills in a challenging environment: the gallery’s front window display. Proposals should explore themes of innovation, humour and diversity. All mediums are welcome. The project space is available in three-weekly blocks from June 2016 to December 2017. For more information contact the gallery’s public program coordinator Rachel Piercy on 6592 5455. Proposals are due by April 30.
The second initiative is the Wall Project, a public project for local artists to explore, collaborate and showcase their artistic skills on one of the gallery’s internal walls during opening hours. Proposals are open to explore any theme with displays over a period of two to three weeks. Artists should create an ephemeral artwork allowing for audience interaction utilising the dedicated wall in the gallery. All mediums are welcome. The project begins in June, for two years. Jocelyn Maughan will be the first artist to participate, working during the Robin Norling Exhibition. She will cover the wall in watercolour paper and paint landscapes for four days and interact with visitors. For any information contact assistant gallery director Jane Hosking on 6592 5455. Proposals are due by April 30.
Finally, the Heritage Space Exhibition Program from 2018-2019 is designed to give artists, arts collectives and community groups the opportunity to exhibit in the Manning Regional Art Gallery heritage space by providing emerging and established artists an opportunity to exhibit in a professionally run public gallery space alongside exhibitions by significant regional and national artists. Proposals should display excellence, innovation and vision and develop exhibition concepts that consolidate current art practices, showcase experimentation with new mediums or techniques, or explore new themes and directions specifically in one or two of the galleries in the heritage space. For any information, contact assistant director Jane Hosking on 6592 5455. Proposals are due by May 31.
