St George Illawarra outside back Peter Mata’utia has left the club with immediate effect after the Dragons agreed to release himfrom hiscontract.
Mata’utiarequested anearly releaseto take-up an opportunity with another NRL club, reported to be Newcastle, where his three younger brothers Sione, Chanel and Pat are contracted.

Mata’utia made his first-grade debut for the club in round 10 of 2014 againstParramattaand made 25 appearances in total.
Dragons director of rugby league pathways Ian Millward said the club wished Mata’utia the best for the future and thanked him for his contribution to the club.
“Peter has requested an early release from his present contract which has been granted to take up another opportunity,” he said.
The 25-year-old was not named in the Dragons starting team for the last two weeks and was named in NSW Cup for the opening round of the season.
The Dragons are well stocked for outside backs with Kalifa Faifai Loa returning from injury and have Kurt Mann still to return.
Josh Dugan, Euan Aitken, Tim Lafai and Jason Nightingale have appeared as automatic selections.
The Dragons face the Sydney Roosters in their traditionalAnzac Day clash on Monday, with the Roosters naming Boyd Cordner and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves to return from injury.
